IT’S TRUE, some of Smith’s sections about technology and surveillance eroding societal relations felt like motherhood statements and the novel version of a British pensioner’s impassioned substack comment. (lots of moral handwringing which betrays a lack of technical understanding of what they rant about)
re: MFH, it has a slow start and gets better. then more middling. then a little better again. THEN it has an NGE esque ending. so very much a YMMV book. but Seth Dickinson said it impressed them and was politically incisive, so I was a little let down on that front.
