I wrote much less in 2024, which I expected and am fine with -- it was a busy year and fandom wasn't my focus (as much). my writing endeavours this year span -- behold! -- one fic for bethefirst and one zine piece. but reflecting on just those two would get boring fast, so I'll lump my 2023 fic in too.

I’m only half-joking with the title. I just got back from a moderately long vacation and I'm still re-wiring my brain from its holiday state. I did no writing (except finishing one short WIP, and I truly mean short) in that time, but I fully expected that. life came first and I prioritized it. I'm slowly getting back to replies; bear with me!

for my own reference, these is a quick rough tally of wips I want to finish at some point* (*anywhere from 2 weeks to 20 years) and uh, certain songs -- I've been calling them midwife tracks -- I've stuck into informal playlists for them.

I don't always listen to music while doing my actual writing, but music is a pretty big source of creative inspiration because I'm the definition of head empty, no imagination, and having lyrics percolating in my head helps me jumpstart the energy needed to think of words. for some wips I get stuck to The Song, aka songs that are... okay, there's no non-cringe way to say it, theme songs for drafts that drive the entire writing process, and those are the midwife tracks -- songs that I'll end up replaying endlessly at 1 AM and generally see me through the whole thing while I finish writing the draft, whichever happens sooner.

this list also doubles up as a not-so-subtle reminder to myself of all the wips i've accumulated, oof.

chocochipbiscuit recently tagged me on Tumblr in a self-rec challenge, and I've queued a post for that there, but it reminded me that now's a good time to look back on my writing too.

To get the elephant in the room out of the way: my main AO3 has seen less activity this year, but that's because I've been posting most of my writing this year to my side (delegation) which is a loose "everything that doesn't fit my main account" and "I'm tired of this WIP, just take it from my hands" dumping spot -- and that has ranged from things like domestic fluff (which is, unusually, a squick of sorts -- more on that later!) to dubcon and noncon.

I don't publicise my side on Tumblr or most fandom socials to avoid harassment*, but I'm still fond of some things I've posted there, so I want an excuse to discuss them too. :p

* My stance on the old fiction v. endorsement debate is more nuanced than something I'm comfortable elaborating on in a casual post, but can be summed up, for effective purposes here, as YKINMKATO.
